• We have also run across glitzy “Best in the Industry” awards. Sounds pretty impressive, until you realize the company sponsoring the so-called awards was the winner and sole recipient. Which wasn’t hard – since they were the only contestant!
  
  
• Discussion Forums and blogs* are also another venue for these con artists. It is almost impossible to track down or verify individual comments, and there is very little to stop someone from logging on multiple times under different names and offering their “real-world” opinion. Of course, those opinions are usually directed against a particular company or product – with no facts to back them up.
